Do you know why we lost Game 6?
79.167 Save Percentage.
It is paramount in the NHL playoffs to have a good goaltender. You need a guy to come up big and make the saves when called upon. What you can't afford to have is a guy who lets in 5 goals on 24 shots. Which one do you think the Penguins have? Listen, I've never been a huge Fleury fan and tonight it was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Fleury is not a big time goaltender. We've been winning games in spite of him all series and most of the playoffs (Game 4 against the Flyers was the only good game he had). Now, it has finally caught up to us.
When you outplay a team in 6 straight games, reasonable logic would suggest you should beat them 4 of those 6 times. The unknown variable in the equation turns out to be how poor will your goaltender perform. Through this entire series Fleury has been outplayed by a 21-year-old rookie whose major experience has come in this postseason. Fleury was supposed to be battle tested after a long playoff run last year but he has regressed to the point where we need to start looking for a new goalie. He is now the Ryan Whitney of the team, a very high priced yet extremely underachieving performer.
Well, I guess we got what we deserved. Everyone was having a victory parade before we won anything and it came back to bite us in the ass. Maybe this will teach us to be a little more humble. I am officially rooting for any team to beat Washington now, including Detroit. You don't know how much that pains me to say, but it's the truth. I feel sick.

Thank you for this site. I cannot believe all of the kool-aid drinking Pens fans who love this idiot. When they show a close-up of his face during the game, all I can think of is how a deer looks when trapped in a car's headlights. Fleury cannot even perform the most rudimentary tasks such as stopping the puck behind the net let alone in front of it. The Pens will NEVER win a Stanley Cup as long as he is our goalie.
Let's be honest, most of the Kool-Aid drinking Pens fans who love Fleury are women. They think he is adorable and says the cutest things and he's the best and...shoot me in the head. This isn't Hollywood. You can't translate looks to how good they are at their job.
Enviro shares your sentiment that they will never win a Stanley Cup with Fleury in net because he lacks a killer instinct. I'm starting to think that is true.
Its no secret that I am not the biggest MAF fan. Just when I get close to jumping on his wagon, he goes and has a series like this. Hep called it right last night...he is a bi-polar goaltender.
You have to be not-right in the head to be a star goaltender. Look at all the greats, they all have a screw loose. MAF doesnt have that. He is too nice and personnable.
We are winning in spite of his play. Only way we win tomorrow is if he is sparkling and dont bet on that happening.
When I was talking to Enviro the other night, I think it was during an intermission in game three, I made the comment that we will not win a Stanley Cup with Fleury.
Fleury is a good goalie. He is playoff goalie. He is not a great goalie. He doesn't have that little bit extra that defines a Stanley Cup winning goalie.
The game winning goal in over time was a perfect example of this. Granted, it was deflection, but he could have had better position and been better set up to take up as much net as possible instead of over committing. Stanley Cup winning goalies play strong angles and let the puck hit them. I don't Fleury is that goalie.
He is too hot and cold, but unlike most goalies who do this in games streaks. Fleury takes his streaks in the matter of minutes, sometimes it seems from rush to rush.
Versus showed a stat last night for blocked shots in the playoffs. #1 was Pens, # 2 was the Caps. The retard announcers made some comment about how that's a testament to the defense. I disagree. Having been a defenseman for most of hockey career, the only time me and my teamamtes EVER tried to block the shots like the Pens D and Caps D is when we didn't have confidence in our goaltender. If you are unsuccessful in blocking a shot, it usually results in you being out of position for the rest of the play.
Watch the teams that have confidence in their goaltenders. They let the goalie do their job. Which is supposed to be stopping the pucks they're supposed to stop.
20 Goals on 159 shots = .874 save percentage.
Hey! Don't give up yet! You're acting like you have freakin' Osgood. Okay, the numbers are horrible, and his play has not been stellar. At all. Ever. Even Osgood is playing better (chuckle). BUT, the team seems to be playing well despite the holy back end. Don't give up the ghost yet guys....
No lie, I'd rather have Osgood. His regular season stats don't give me a boner but he is a proven winner in the post season. His name is on the Cup 3 times (probably a 4th this year) and he makes the saves when he has to. He's not spectacular, but you don't need that in the playoffs. You need a solid goaltender. Fleury is not that at all.
If the Pens hope to win Game 7 they are going to have to put up a Herculean effort to rival the 8-0 drubbing they gave the Minnesota North Stars in the 1991 playoffs. Oh wait, we don't have Lemieux anymore. We're fucked.
Bring up Adam Berkhoel from WBS. 3-1 with a 1.91 GAA and a .942 SV%. He can't do any worse.
